Mesquite Super Auction Results- 12/13/03 Auction held at the Resistol Arena (Mesquite Rodeo) Results courtesy of Hassell Castle Amusements. NOTE: Add 13% Buyers Premium + 8.25% Texas Sales Tax to Hammer Price(s) below to see final price paid. Lots of pins as usual here in Texas....as they say...everything is bigger in Texas! Before the auction began I figured it would be a sellers market since this was the holiday season auction...I was wrong...I would say for the most part it was a byers market. Many pins....lots of restorable early Bally, Williams and Stern SS pinballs. Prices listed below are the hammer prices, add 13% buyers premium + 8.25% Sales Tax to figure out what was actually paid for each machine. I've tried to list the machine in close to the order they were auctioned off. And as always....Please do not e-mail me asking what kind fo shape was XXX game in. I've been searching for a KISS Pinball for a while as I'm a fan fo the band. It has very clean boards...no acid damage, perfect plastics, backglass very nice, unfaded cabinet. I plan to put a new IPB playfield in it and I'm contemplating going full blown on it and doing a total restore including repainting the cabinet. ** The Bally Playboy was a comical pin to talk about along with the Stern Hot Hand...but I'll get to the Hot Hand in a moment. The previous owner of the Bally Playboy took it upon himself to get crazy with a can of gold spray paint. Owner had painted the leg bolts, leg levelers, plunger rod & housing, bolts that hold coindoor to the cabinet and siderail nails Krylon gold. It was done we'll but looked awefully tacky. Some of us were joking about it and referring to it as the "South Dallas Playboy" *** Hot Hand was another story. Previous owner bought it back....geez he should have taken whatever he could have gotten for it! Not only did this pinball machine work but it had been clearcoated..but not in a good way. Why bother removing your plastics, rubber rings, bulbs or anything for that matter before clearing the playfield. Just shoot your clearcoat right over everything.....don't bother about cleaning the dirt and dust off the field before hand...that will just add character to the machine. This game was worth taking pictures of. **** Final note. I've never been to thrilled with sellers bidding up there items or buy backs. But I had to do it this time...and for good reason. I bought back my Data East Star Wars that I took there, the game was freshly shopped with header and I got lots of compliments on it before the auction began. I wasn't going to give it away! I had more than $1100 into it. Needless to say...after they finished auctioning off the pins a guy came up and offered $1275 cash for it and I sold it to him. He's happy, I'm happy a win/win for both of us. There you have it! Craig Hassell
